Dr. Bonnell is from California and Texas and received her DVM from Texas A&M. With 21 years of experience, she was inspired by Where The Red Fern Grows and raising cats as a kid. As Lead Doctor at the Playa Vista clinic, she loves getting the opportunity to help pets and people. Her patients would describe her as gentle, thorough, and helpful.
Dr. Shim is from Los Angeles and received her DVM from UC Davis. With 12 years of experience driven by a lifelong obsession with animals, she now practices at the Playa Vista clinic. She loves interacting with animals and appreciates Modern Animal's clinic spaces with lots of natural light. Her patients would describe her as gentle, cautious, but direct.

Primary Care
We provide the full spectrum of day-to-day veterinary care your pet needs to stay healthy and well. This includes wellness exams, vaccines, nutrition support, parasite prevention, and treatment for common issues like allergies, ear infections, and chronic conditions. We’re here for every stage of your pet’s life.
Urgent Care
For health issues that should be addressed sooner than a routine visit allows, but are not emergencies, we offer same-day and next-day appointments. This includes things like minor injuries, sudden changes in appetite or behavior, or signs of illness.
24/7 Virtual Care
Chat with a licensed veterinary professional anytime, day or night. Our team can help with general questions, triage concerns, and guidance on whether your pet needs to be seen in person.
Pharmacy
We offer a full-service pharmacy for prescription medications, preventatives, and prescription diets recommended by your care team. You can pick up in the clinic or have items delivered to your door with optional autoship for ongoing needs.’
Vaccines
We provide core and lifestyle-based vaccines to protect your pet against preventable diseases. Your care team will tailor a vaccine plan based on your pet’s age, breed, environment, and health history.
Dental Care
We offer comprehensive dental services to keep your pet’s mouth healthy and pain-free. This includes cleanings under anesthesia, full-mouth radiographs, extractions when needed, and personalized care plans to address tartar, gum disease, and other oral health concerns.

This was the most pleasant vet visit I’ve ever been to. Everything was so well explained by the Dr and the nurse, I was able to discuss my estimate and didn’t feel overcharged. They were so caring with my new rescue dog, and knew how to handle her anxiety (while other regular vet didn’t). The whole app system is so user friendly. I won’t go anywhere else! Thank you Dr Bonnell.

Common Questions
Routine exams give us time to look at the eyes, ears, and skin for allergies or infection and to check the mouth for tartar or inflammation. We also assess muscle tone and mobility and talk through any changes in appetite or sleep. Seeing your pet regularly keeps their care consistent instead of reactive.
The team at our Playa Vista clinic helps new puppy and kitten parents with first-year planning, feeding schedules, and behavior basics. Essential and All Access members have around-the-clock Virtual Care for support with things like parasite questions, soft stools, coughing or sneezing, or whether something needs attention right away.
We are not an emergency hospital, but the team at our Playa Vista clinic provides full-service primary and urgent care during regular daytime hours. If an urgent situation comes up, Essential and All Access members can use 24/7 Virtual Care through the app for real-time support and referral to an emergency clinic if needed.
At our Playa Vista clinic, we care for cats and dogs and provide preventive, primary, and same-day urgent care. We do not treat exotic animals such as rabbits, reptiles, or birds.

Our Playa Vista clinic does not offer its own pet insurance plans, but we think having insurance is important because it can reduce financial stress when unexpected care is needed. Pet insurance operates on reimbursement, so you’ll pay at the clinic and then send your claim to your provider. We work with providers such as Nationwide, Spot, and Trupanion, and we can provide the paperwork needed to submit claims.
