Dr. Subash Kethavath
Lead Veterinarian

Dr. Kethavath is from India and received his DVM from SVVU before earning his graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With 10 years of experience, he sees veterinarians as pediatricians for pets, caring for those who can't speak for themselves. As Lead Doctor at the NoPa clinic, he loves making a real difference in animals' lives.

Dr. Chris Frankenberger
Veterinarian

Dr. Frankenberger grew up in Maryland and received his DVM from UC Davis. His interest in biology and medicine naturally aligned with his passion for animals. At the NoPa clinic, he loves witnessing the bond between people and their animals and helping strengthen that connection by keeping pets healthy and supporting owners through challenging times.

Dr. Isaac Jeon
Veterinarian

Dr. Jeon received his DVM from Ross University and has practiced for eight years. He's always wanted to be a veterinarian since he was young. At the NoPa clinic, his favorite part is working with dogs and utilizing Modern Animal's AI tools that help him work more efficiently and focus on patient care.

Dr. Natalie Sanford
Veterinarian

Dr. Sanford received her DVM from the University of Glasgow. She's always wanted to work with animals and at the NoPa clinic, she loves her patients and the team she works with. Her patients would describe her as a nice treat lady. She has a black belt in taekwondo and on days off, she's going horseback riding around the Bay Area.

Dr. John VonBampus
Veterinarian

Dr. VonBampus is from the Chicago suburbs and received his DVM from Ross University. He was inspired to become a veterinarian by his dad. At the NoPa clinic, he loves seeing patients respond well to treatment and appreciates the freedom to practice gold standard medicine. He can play the guitar and he's a big Purdue basketball fan. On days off, he's spending time at home with his cats.

Dr. Chris Frankenberger and the care team were so kind to me and my dog Marley. I could tell that they truly cared about Marley’s health and comfort. And they met some of my concerns without any judgment, and instead validated me and gave me a thoughtful solution instead! Definitely one of my best visits here :)

Modern Animal was hands down the best vet experience I've had. I'm so glad we made the switch. From a staff perspective, the nurses and doctors were prompt, incredibly efficient and helpful, and gave us options to return for a blood pull when my cat was having some issues. From a facilities perspective, the parking was so easy, the building is beautiful, and they even offer coffee upon arrival. This was the best decision we made!!

Had a fantastic experience at Modern Animal. Place was super- clean, the front desk person greeted me right away and offered me a soda water, so nice. There was no wait; they took me and my skittish kitty directly into an exam room. Doctor Frankenburger is exactly the type of vet I always hoped I would get, (and never really had until now), He is approachable, listened well and gave sound advice. Shout out to Amy and the vet techs who kept my sweet boy calm during a bladder ultrasound! . It was so much more comfortable than other vets we've gone to. We will def come back!

Dr Jeon is the best veterinarian we've had in almost a decade. Within minutes (!!!) of meeting us he suggested that some of the medication that my dog was taking (mind you, for YEARS at that point), was unnecessary, and due to a misdiagnosis. We'd seen - oh, idk, 5? - local-ish vets during those years, and not one batted an eye. We stopped the medication and the doc was right - it had been unnecessary. Needless to say, that day had been my aha! moment that we'd found the vet we'd stick with for as long we possibly could.

The vet (Dr. Kuo) and the nurses were so patient with our anxious dog and were able to answer all our questions. They recommended additional meds and vaccinations that we hadn't known about and were able to work with our fearful dog to get the bloodwork they needed. Highly recommend!

Common Questions

Why are regular vet visits important?

Routine veterinary care gives us a chance to listen to the heart and lungs, examine joints and mobility, and check for lumps or bumps that may need monitoring. We also review appetite, energy levels, and behavior since small shifts can point to underlying issues. Regular visits make it easier to spot patterns over time.

What support does Modern Animal offer to new pet parents?

The team at our NoPa clinic guides new pet parents through first-year care, nutrition, and what to expect at each stage. Essential and All Access members also have 24/7 access to Virtual Care for questions about things like socialization, teething and chewing, minor vomiting or diarrhea, coughing or sneezing, and when something can wait until morning.

Does the Modern Animal NoPa Clinic have 24/7 emergency care?

We are not an emergency hospital, but the team at our NoPa clinic provides full-service primary and urgent care during regular daytime hours. Should an urgent situation arise, Essential and All Access members can connect with 24/7 Virtual Care through the app for immediate advice and next-step recommendations.

What type of animals does the Modern Animal NoPa clinic treat?

The team at our NoPa clinic cares for cats and dogs and offers preventive, primary, and urgent care with no breed or size restrictions. We do not provide veterinary services for exotic pets like rabbits, reptiles, or birds.

How can I book a visit at Modern Animal’s NoPa clinic?

The most convenient way to book a visit at our NoPa clinic is online or in the Modern Animal app. If you prefer to speak with someone, you can call 866-505-8755 between 6am and 6pm PST.

Does Modern Animal NoPa accept or offer pet insurance?

Our NoPa clinic does not offer its own pet insurance plans, but we think having insurance is helpful because it can reduce surprise expenses over the course of your pet’s life. Pet insurance is claims based, which means you’ll pay at your visit and then submit a claim for reimbursement. We work with providers such as Healthy Paws, Trupanion, and Spot, and we can provide what you need to file claims smoothly.
